Grogan's Mill Village Center Is Still Being Finished, One Suite at a Time

Howard Hughes cut the ribbon on the redeveloped Grogan's Mill Village Center in June 2025. More than a year later, the center is still filling in. A barbershop was reported open on Oct. 1. A fitness studio opened in January. A Sichuan restaurant's late-July target passed without a confirmed opening, and a wine bar's target window is open right now. The largest dining room planned for 7 Switchbud Place won't open until 2027.

For anyone living in Timberloch Estates or elsewhere in Grogan's Mill, the useful question is which parts of the center you can actually use today. The answer is changing month to month. The same is true of the nature trail bridge south of the village, which the Township hopes to have rebuilt before the year ends.

The Ribbon Cutting Was Only Phase One

When Community Impact covered the June 25, 2025 opening, it called the retail work phase one of a bigger plan built around a library and community center. That second piece arrived quickly. The Montgomery County Memorial Library System opened the Kevin Brady Library at the revitalized center on Sept. 2, 2025. Howard Hughes described the community-center space as a place for voting, local events, gatherings and senior programs.

So the anchors came first. Shops and restaurants have been following in small steps ever since, and the work isn't done. Howard Hughes' leasing page for the center was still advertising spaces of 1,300 to 4,600 square feet as of this year. Open suites mean more announcements are likely, and the tenant list you remember from last spring is probably already out of date.

What Is Actually Open on Switchbud Place

Here is where the center's 2026 additions stand as of early October 2026. They are sorted by status, because an announced opening date and an open door are two different things.

Business What it is Where Status, early October 2026
Suna Studio Strength training and barre Grogan's Mill Village Center Open since its Jan. 26 soft opening
Hourani's Barbershop Haircuts, color and keratin, skincare, waxing 7 Switchbud Place, Suite 191 Open
Cooking Girl Sichuan restaurant 7 Switchbud Place, Suite 194 Was targeting late July; opening not confirmed
Turquoise Wine Bar Wine and small plates Grogan's Mill Village Center Was targeting late September or early October; opening not confirmed
Daniel & Co. Fine Jewelry & Watches Jewelry, stone replacement, engraving, custom design Grogan's Mill Village Center Opening date TBD
Uni Sushi Sushi restaurant 7 Switchbud Place, Suite 190 Announced for 2027

Two of the six are open. That gap matters if you're planning a dinner out. Community Impact reported in July that Cooking Girl was aiming for late July. A Woodlands Online post from late September still listed the restaurant's old "spring 2026" plan. Neither source confirms that it has opened. Turquoise Wine Bar's target window is right now, but as of this writing nothing confirms its doors are open. A quick call or a look at the business's own social channels will tell you more than any roundup.

One familiar errand stop is also in flux. The Grogan's Mill UPS Store closed temporarily while its owner reorganized it as an independent business. In a Sept. 21 report, the owner expected to reopen "in a week" and warned that UPS-specific services could take longer to return. If you have a package to ship, check before you drive over.

The Biggest Dining Room Is Still a Year Away

The tenant most likely to change how the center feels on a weeknight is the one furthest out. Howard Hughes Communities announced on June 29 that Uni Sushi will return to The Woodlands at Grogan's Mill Village Center. Owners Angel Barragan and Rosie Izaguirre are planning about 3,500 square feet with a covered patio and indoor seating for roughly 230 to 250 guests.

That headcount explains why the center's current evening options feel small. Suna Studio and Hourani's Barbershop bring daytime traffic, and the library brings a steady flow of visitors. A restaurant built for more than 200 guests is a different kind of draw, the kind that keeps a parking lot busy after dark. Uni Sushi's Market Street location closed in January. Diners who followed it from there can expect it back at Suite 190 sometime in 2027.

Until then, the busiest stretch of the week at Switchbud Place is Saturday morning.

Saturday Mornings Are Already Back to Full Hours

The Woodlands Farmers Market started in 2008 as the Grogan's Mill Farmers Market, and it typically closes only one Saturday a year, the one between Christmas and New Year's Day. Walkers and cyclists can reach it from the Mill Bend Trail, which passes under Grogan's Mill Road. The Grogan's Mill Village Association sponsors it, and it runs every Saturday morning. October also brings the seasonal schedule change.

  • Fall through spring hours: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., October through June, rain or shine
  • Summer hours: 9 a.m. to noon, July through September
  • Vendors: more than 60, and every agricultural and artisan vendor has to grow or make what they sell
  • Planning ahead: a newsletter goes out every Friday listing which vendors will be there the next day
  • Where the money goes: market profits fund the Village Association's philanthropic programs, including college scholarships and the Interfaith Food Pantry

The Township calendar listed the market for Saturday, Oct. 3, at Grogan's Mill Shopping Center, 7 Switchbud Place. That made last weekend the first full-length Saturday of the season. The extra hour also leaves time to stop at the library or one of the open storefronts before the lot empties out.

The Trail Link South of the Village Is Still Missing

The other unfinished piece of Grogan's Mill sits on the pathway network. The Township posted a bid for a replacement bridge on the Grogan's Mill Nature Trail on April 22, and bids closed June 3. The bid documents place the crossing north of Sawdust Road, west of Golden Road, next to the West Course.

At the board's June 25 meeting, residents came to ask about the delay. One director said the bridge had been out "for 18 months or so." The Township's chief operating officer, Dr. Chris Nunes, explained that the new bridge needed extensive modeling and permitting before work could begin, and he gave a timeline.

"So we are looking in that October or November time. Again, if weather holds out for us. We have got to demo everything, we've got to be sure it is clean, and then build it back up."

The draft minutes from that meeting record a contract award to Mc2 Civil, LLC for $470,370 for the 2026 Grogan's Point Nature Trail Pathway Bridge Replacement, contract C-2026-0389. The bid package carries the same contract number under the name Grogan's Mill Nature Trail Bridge Replacement, so both names refer to one project. As of early October, there is no public Township notice confirming that construction has started or announcing a new completion date. The October-or-November target still stands, with the weather caveat attached.

Nunes called the footbridge the short-term fix. For the long term, he said, a 2027 budget initiative will lay the groundwork for engineering, possible right-of-way purchases and coordination with pipeline operators, all aimed at a permanent connection that won't be lost to future bridge outages. Part of that plan depends on a Montgomery County project nearby. The county is designing a new Sawdust Road vehicle bridge at East Panther Branch that includes a pedestrian bridge. As of Sept. 14, design was nearly 60% complete, hydraulic modeling was finished, and Army Corps permits were being pursued. Cost and schedule are still to be determined. At Precinct 3's spring town hall in March, the design showed an 8-foot shared-use path next to four 12-foot lanes.

Put together, that's a footbridge the Township hopes to finish before the year ends and a sturdier county crossing still in design, with no date yet.

The Rest of the Fall Calendar Within a Short Drive

The village center doesn't host everything this season, but the next two events draw from the same streets. Northshore Park's free Concert in the Park series runs Sundays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Chris Kizzia plays Oct. 11, and the Woodlands House Band closes the fall series on Oct. 18 with Spooktacular Sounds.

Next comes Lighting of the Doves on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Town Green Park. The event's parking is listed along Timberloch Place and Grogan's Mill Road. If you live near those roads, expect more traffic than usual that afternoon. The bridge crew's October-or-November window ends right around the same weekend.
