Cypress has no single town square for the holidays. Most of the season happens in a handful of buildings: a movie theater on Fry Road, two Cy-Fair ISD venues, a farmers market lot a little further up Fry, and a pair of event spaces on Mueschke Road. This year the newest attraction and the biggest one-day market fall in the same week. Star Cinema Grill plans to open its IMAX auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 18, and the CyFair Nutcracker Market takes over the Berry Center that Saturday, Nov. 21.
So the plan for the rest of 2026 comes down to which building you're headed to and when. Here's how the season lines up between now and mid-December, starting with the weekend that warms things up.
Mueschke Road Gets the First Weekend
The first holiday-adjacent weekend after this post goes live happens on one road. On Saturday, Nov. 14, Texas Sundown Band plays The Barn at The Frio Grill, 16410 Mueschke Road, at 8 p.m., and admission is free. Community Impact describes the group as a five-piece band that has played for more than 10 years. Their setlist covers classic country, '90s country, Texas country and rock.
The next morning, a few doors down at Lindsay Lakes, 16536 Mueschke Road, Houston Repertoire Ballet hosts The Land of Sweets Soiree. It's an afternoon with Clara from The Nutcracker, with sweets and photo opportunities, at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15. Tickets are $45 for children and $35 for adults. If you have a young ballet fan at home, think of the soiree as a preview. The same company performs the full ballet in Cypress three weeks later.
Wednesday the 18th: IMAX Comes to a Dine-In Theater on Fry Road
The biggest change to a Cypress night out this season happens at 8920 Fry Road. In an October announcement covered by Boxoffice Pro, Star Cinema Grill said its Cypress location would open an IMAX with Laser theater on Nov. 18. The company says that makes it the only dine-in cinema in the Houston area with IMAX.
The timing is deliberate. The new auditorium is set to debut during the opening weekend of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, Nov. 18–22, and the company describes that as the start of a run of IMAX releases through the end of 2026. The rest of the building is changing too. Community Impact reports new seating across the auditoriums, including plush heated recliners, massage seating and privacy pods.
Founder and CEO Omar Khan put the idea simply in the company's announcement: "For years, moviegoers often had to choose between the food, service and hospitality of a dine-in cinema and the premium presentation of a large-format theatre." For Cypress, that means dinner and a large-format screen now happen in one stop on Fry Road during the busiest moviegoing stretch of the year. A Hunger Games opening on the same weekend as the area's biggest holiday market makes for a crowded Saturday. If you want the IMAX experience without the crowd, Wednesday or Thursday of opening week is the smarter pick.
Saturday the 21st: The Berry Center Becomes a Holiday Market
Three days after the IMAX debut, the season's busiest daytime event fills the Berry Center at 8877 Barker Cypress Road. The Berry Center's official calendar lists the CyFair Nutcracker Market on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It runs one day only. My Neighborhood News reports it's organized by Lori Preisler Productions and will have hundreds of vendors, and Hello Cypress puts the count at more than 270.
Expect clothing, home decor, holiday and garden decor, and food vendors. Parents should know one detail before they go: strollers aren't allowed into the market until 2 p.m. If you're bringing a little one who rides, plan an afternoon visit. If you want first pick of the vendors, go in the morning and use a carrier. Check admission and ticket details on the organizer's Cyfair Holiday Extravaganza Facebook page before you head out.
Hello Cypress's November guide also lists Light the Towne at The Boardwalk at Towne Lake for Friday, Nov. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. It describes a 40-foot tree lighting with Santa, snow, carols, a DJ and cocoa. Look for the final details on The Boardwalk's site before you plan your Friday around it.
Nine Days at a Glance
Here's how the stretch from the first Mueschke Road weekend to the Sunday before Thanksgiving fits together:
| Day | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Sat., Nov. 14 | Texas Sundown Band, 8 p.m., free | The Barn at The Frio Grill, 16410 Mueschke Rd. |
| Sun., Nov. 15 | The Land of Sweets Soiree, 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. | Lindsay Lakes, 16536 Mueschke Rd. |
| Wed., Nov. 18 | IMAX with Laser planned to open | Star Cinema Grill, 8920 Fry Rd. |
| Fri., Nov. 20 | Light the Towne, as listed by Hello Cypress | The Boardwalk at Towne Lake |
| Sat., Nov. 21 | CyFair Nutcracker Market, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. | Berry Center, 8877 Barker Cypress Rd. |
| Sun., Nov. 22 | Cypress Farmers Market | Lakeland Village Center, 10519 Fry Rd. |
| Sun., Nov. 22 | Stageworks Acting Academy Holiday Market, 1–5 p.m., free | Stageworks Theater, 10760 Grant Rd. |
The farmers market is the one event on that list that keeps going after the holidays. The Your Neighborhood Farmers Market Association runs its Cypress market at Lakeland Village Center on the second and fourth Sundays, so Nov. 22 is the last date before Thanksgiving. If you're shopping for the holiday table, that Sunday is your last market run before the big day. The Stageworks market that afternoon raises money for the Junior Theater Festival and offers pictures with Santa, food and vendor booths.
After Thanksgiving, the Stages Take Over
Once the turkey is put away, the season moves indoors to two Grant Road theaters and one more Cy-Fair ISD building.
- Playhouse 1960, 6814 Grant Road, opens Little Women the Musical on Nov. 28 and runs it over three weekends through Dec. 13. Online tickets are listed at $25.10 to $28.22 before fees.
- Houston Repertoire Ballet's 31st annual The Nutcracker plays the Cy-Fair ISD Visual & Performing Arts Center, 11420 Matzke Road, on Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., Dec. 5 at 2 and 7 p.m., and Dec. 6 at 1 and 6 p.m. Tickets start at $30 before fees, and the venue enforces a clear bag policy.
The two Cy-Fair ISD venues bookend the season. The Berry Center holds the big shopping day in November, and the Visual & Performing Arts Center holds the ballet in December. If you bought soiree tickets for Nov. 15, buy Nutcracker seats early, because those first weekend of December performances are the payoff for a kid who just met Clara.
The Nights In Between
Most of the season's nights won't have an event attached. A few recent openings give you new places to go on those nights. Community Impact reported that Galiana's Casa Del Tequila held its grand opening on Sept. 28 at 11231 Greenhouse Road, Suite 150, after a soft-opening week. Taco Palenque opened Sept. 17 at 26003 Northwest Freeway and is open 24 hours, which is handy after a late IMAX showing.
For a morning before the Nutcracker Market, Aleyotl Coffee & Bakery soft opened Sept. 11 at 28404 Hempstead Road, Unit G09. And if the dog needs to look sharp for holiday photos, Doggy Spa Grooming opened Oct. 23 at 16726 Huffmeister Road, Suite D200.
